How to use a MIDI Pack with GarageBand

Mini MIDI Melody #1 in GarageBand

If you love playing piano but don’t have the time or skills to compose your own solos, we have the perfect solution for you: our MIDI pack! This pack contains hundreds of professionally crafted piano solos that you can use in your GarageBand projects. Whether you need a soothing melody, a catchy riff, or a dramatic climax, you’ll find it in our MIDI pack. Here’s how to use it:

  • First, download the MIDI pack from our website and unzip it on your device.
  • Next, open the Files app and navigate to the GarageBand file transfer folder. This is where you can import and export audio and MIDI files to and from GarageBand.
  • Then, copy and paste the MIDI files from the MIDI pack folder to the GarageBand file transfer folder.
  • Now, open GarageBand and create a new project or open an existing one.
Select “Keyboard” when creating a new GarageBand project to get started quickly
  • To add a MIDI file to your project, tap the loop browser icon (the one that looks like a loop) and then tap the Files tab.
Look for the loops icon to find your MIDI melody clips
  • You’ll see a list of all the MIDI files in the GarageBand file transfer folder. Tap on the one you want to use and drag it to an empty track in your project.
Drag and drop your selected melody into any free instrument lane
  • You can adjust the length, position, and tempo of the MIDI file by tapping and dragging on its edges or corners.
  • You can also edit the individual notes of the MIDI file by double-tapping on it and then tapping Edit. This will open the piano roll editor, where you can move, delete, add, or change the pitch, velocity, or duration of any note.
  • If you want to change the instrument that plays the MIDI file, tap on the track header and then tap on the instrument icon. You’ll see a list of all the instruments available in GarageBand. Tap on the one you want to use and it will replace the previous one. By default, GarageBand will use the Grand Piano instrument for any imported MIDI file.
  • You can also apply effects, EQ, compression, reverb, and other settings to your MIDI track by tapping on the mixer icon (the one that looks like a knob) and then tapping Track Controls.
